Christmas is near and in the Linguini Kitchen we are getting ahead of the Xmas dinner game. We really enjoy the planning stage: coming up with new courses to serve alongside the traditional ones, writing down a shopping list, booking the fish/meat, making sure everyone’s happy and well catered for! But do you know what we also love? We love some time-saving tricks that will make our life easier on a very busy cooking day. One of these tricks is to make the most out of a single ingredient/preparation, for instance: if you have made some lovely Panettone flavoured syrup you really want to use it across the whole menu, instead of restricting it to the dessert only.
This syrup is 50% honey and honey is an extremely popular ingredient also in savoury dishes: salad dressings, glazes, marinades… you name it! All it needs is some saltiness and earthiness to counterbalance all the sweetness. And this is a very easy business and our Panettone Honey roasted Nuts are the proof!
Apparently the first honey roasted nut mix was introduced onto the market in 1985 in the US and they soon became a popular airline snack on domestic flights. Although some honey-roasted nut producers maintain these arrived to New York via Buenos Aires in 1984, there are a few patents issued between the late 70s and 80s that involve different techniques which makes it of course impossible to trace back the origin of this super-addictive nibble!
But whilst there might be uncertainty regarding the inventor of honey roasted peanuts, there is absolutely no doubt we, Linguini, came up with the first ‘Panettone-flavoured’ honey roasted nuts!
Do they taste like Panettone? Er… not quite! Do they taste like honey, Xmas and happiness? Yes, they do! The combination between the nuttiness, the sweetness, the saltiness, the citrusy flavour from the orange and lemon zest rounded up with a hint of vanilla makes the perfect bottomless snack to nibble on Xmas day while enjoying a glass of wine or prosecco. And, they are ridiculously easy to do… So what are you waiting for?
